ABOUT LONDON MET

London Metropolitan University
This is one of the largest universities in the UK and the only one located in the ‘Square Mile’ of the City of London and the capital’s second financial centre, Canary Wharf.
London Met reflects the dynamic and cosmopolitan character of the capital in the composition of its student population, including one of the largest number of international students in the UK, and in the pattern of its subject and research portfolio with a concentration of expertise in finance, business, the creative industries and the public sector. Its mission is summed up in its logo: ‘Shaping London, a world city’.
This ambition permeates University strategy. The University actively engages employers and professional organisations in the design and delivery of its educational services making it one of the foremost providers of undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and vocational education in Britain. Its ten research institutes provide multi-disciplinary research teams geared to address the real-world economic and social issues that engage international political and business leaders, regional authorities and entrepreneurs, local governments and communities.
Its business-to business activities include a specialised site devoted to business creation, incubation and support; advanced CAD/CAM industrial proto-typing facilities and equipment; consultancy in a wide range of fields; bespoke workforce development programmes for employers; and individual professional development and career enhancement services.
Students are actively engaged with London employers through work-based learning, placements and ‘live projects’ as an integral part of their accredited studies. Alternatively similar opportunities are available to work in community-based organisations through the vibrant student-volunteering programme. For students interested in starting up their own businesses, there is a freestanding enterprise programme supported by local entrepreneurs.
London Met is a major contributor to the cluster of higher education providers that make London one of the world’s greatest knowledge capitals. The University is committed to social justice, equal opportunities and community involvement and has many years experience of dealing with the needs of mature and overseas students.
