Computing show attracts the IT crowd

London Metropolitan University's Faculty of Computing hosted a successful Computing Show at the Graduate Centre, on 16 September 2008.

The event was organised in order to act as a bridge between the University department, schools and industry, and it attracted around 300 people. It featured a number of live demonstrations, workshops and talks by industry and academic experts.

London Met Tennis Team Success

London Metropolitan University’s tennis squad have won both the Women’s and the Men’s titles at the prestigious 2008 European Universities Tennis Championships in Dublin.

Their victories follow a successful 2007 tournament in Moscow where both teams achieved bronze medals. This meant that they entered this year’s competition as Number Five and Number Three seeds respectively.

The successful bid means that basketball and fencing Olympic teams from around the world can apply to use the University's facilities to train in the lead-up to the 2012 Olympic Games. The teams will be training in the Science Centre facility which has to date received £30 million investment.

London Metropolitan Business School (LMBS) awarded its first scholarship to a Tower Hamlets school pupil on 16 October at an event organised to welcome Visiting Professors to the University.

The scholarship comprised of a brand new laptop and a £6000 grant to cover the winner’s tuition fees.
