Graduate becomes biomedical scientist for Royal Army Medical Corps
24th October 2008
London Metropolitan University graduate, Peter Ngomba, has been selected by the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) as a Biomedical Scientist, after completing the MSc Biomedical Science at the University.
Peter, from Cameroon, faced a tough competition to achieve selection, which involved a very intensive two-week programme of physical training and leadership assessment. He is one of only 47 selected nationally.
‘My father was a policeman and my mum is a nurse, so I had always imagined myself working in this sort of environment; half way between the uniformed services and the medical profession,’ said Peter.
‘The selection was really tough- they really put you through an intense programme, both physically and emotionally. I will spend around 3 months at Winchester doing military and leadership training before being posted somewhere, which might be Afghanistan or anywhere else in the world. My fiancée is currently working in Shenyang, China, teaching English, so we are going to be something of an international couple for the forseeable future!’
Peter's long term aim is to specialise within the RAMC as a military haematologist, specialising in blood cancer and the blood poisoning impacts of military conflicts, particularly as they effect children.
