London Met alumnus wins international leadership placement

Dionne Walker a London Metropolitan University graduate has been chosen to take part in the Powerbrokers International Leadership Placements scheme. She is now on a three month placement as a Public Relations and Marketing Associate at The National Gallery of Jamaica.

The placement scheme is part of the Cultural Leadership Programme, a government led initiative which promotes leadership excellence and diversity in the cultural and creative sectors.

Dionne completed an Environmental and Social Studies Postgraduate Scheme in Mass Communications at London Met in 2004 and went on to become Head of Film Culture at the London Borough of Camden.

Her new placement at The National Gallery of Jamaica began with the British High Commissioner Jeremy Cresswell congratulating Dionne personally at a visit to the British High Commission in Jamaica.

As a Public Relations and Marketing Associate for the Gallery Dionne will be working alongside Executive Director Dr Jonathan Greenland and Fulbright fellow, Dr Catherine S Amidon, creating and implementing a Communications and Marketing strategy and action plan for the national institution.

Dionne said: ‘This placement is a brilliant opportunity for me to bring together skills gained from years of experience. At the end of this placement I imagine I will be in a good position to take on higher managerial roles or lead cultural programmes.’
