London Met Lecturer shines in Jewellery Press
25th March 2009
Tina Lilienthal, Senior Lecturer for the Foundation Degree in Fashion Jewellery at The Cass (The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design) has been profiled in Retail Jewellery Magazine.
Her fashion-led jewellery ‘with a twist’ boldly combines precious
metals and plastic to humorous effect. It has attracted a host of
celebrity clients including Kelly Osbourne and Denise Van Outen.
Her most recent collection, Edelweiss, is inspired by the Alpine
Flower, a reference to her native Germany. Previous work has used the
seven deadly sins, or striking combinations such as strawberries and
skulls or bones and cherries.
She
describes her work as, ‘almost fairytale-like, with the idea of a witch
and a fairy together. My work is very much about story-telling and
plastic fits so well with that because it is toy-like.’
Tina has also been invited to show her work at two major international events. Ambiente in Frankfurt in February this year and Bread and Butter in Barcelona.
Michael Upton, Academic Leader at the Department said: ‘Whatever
their chosen discipline, it’s important students at The Cass are
learning from working, successful practitioners. Tina is quite a star
in the fashion jewellery world, which is really inspiring and
motivating for the students.’
