London Metropolitan University raises over £500 for ELBA Toy Appeal
28th January 2009
LondonMet broke its 2007 collection record for the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) Toy Appeal by raising a grand total of £502.30 in 2008.
Staff from The London Enterprise Office (TLEO) and the Department of Student Services collected donations, in the foyers of our main university campuses, over a week long period in mid-December. This effort was supported by the LondonMet choir, who sang Christmas carols. Additionally, all money collected from the University Carol Service, at St Boltophs, was donated to the appeal.
LondonMet has supported this project for many years. We were delighted with the generosity of LondonMet staff and students during such a difficult economic time.
The ELBA Toy Appeal has a huge impact on the lives of children in East London by distributing toys to small community organisations in Newham, Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
Home Star Havering, Docklands Outreach and The Blue Hut Centre are samples of the community organisations that will benefit from last year’s appeal.
‘We would like to thank everybody for their support in this difficult economic time, there will be many families and children in the East End whose Christmases will have been happier as a result of ELBA’s Toy Appeal’, Jennie Somerville, Director of TLEO.
