London Metropolitan University today announced the appointment of Alfred Morris CBE DL as interim Vice Chancellor.

London Metropolitan University today announced the appointment of Alfred Morris CBE DL as interim Vice Chancellor. Announcing the appointment, Peter Anwyl, Chairman of the University’s Board of Governors said, "We are delighted that Alfred Morris has accepted the role of interim Vice Chancellor at London Met. He joins the University as we move into the implementation of a far-reaching re-structuring programme. The Board and I are confident that Alfred’s considerable experience and expertise will help steer London Met through these challenging times, ensuring that the University emerges stronger and better able to meet the needs of the future."

Alfred Morris spent many years in senior private sector financial management and management consultancy roles and is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Royal Statistical Society.

He began his HE career as a Senior Leverhulme Research Fellow in University Planning and Management at Sussex University. He later became Chief Executive of what is now London South Bank University and then, for nearly twenty years, of the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Most recently Alfred Morris has been leading a review of vision, mission and strategy as interim Vice Chancellor at the University of Wales Lampeter as a result of which Lampeter has recently announced an intention to merge with Trinity University College Carmarthen.

Speaking of his appointment, Alfred Morris said, "I am looking forward to joining London Met, an institution with a long history of providing a wide range of educational opportunities and an outstanding commitment to widening participation. The University’s excellent recent RAE results are just one example of the progress being made by London Met and point to an exciting future for the institution."

Alfred Morris has today joined London Met on a part-time basis and will take up the role of interim Vice-Chancellor full-time from the end of June.
