13th March 2009
Last month, the London Metropolitan Hospitality Society were guests at an impressive hospitality event at the Sofitel hotel in Heathrow.
The event was organised by the London Branch of the Institute of Hospitality (IOH). The student committee works closely with the Secretary of the IOH London Branch, Mr Ioannis Pantelidis FIH, who is also the team’s advisor
Over 90 industry professionals were at the event and students enjoyed presentations from John Donaldson, Executive Director for Arora Hotels, the Group Operations Director, Peter O’Meara and Chris Cooper the Business Director of Restaurant Associates.
Following the presentations guests were able to network over drinks and canapés. They were then shown round the facilities of the remarkable new hotel which boasts 605 bedrooms, 27 suites, 45 meeting rooms, an outstanding range of restaurants and bars, as well as a luxurious spa and gym.
The London Metropolitan Hospitality Society was formed in October 2007 and has recently become an official society of the student union. The society’s past events include visits to hotels and restaurants, wine-tasting, and related lectures and seminars. Society members also enjoy the use of the extensive online hospitality focused library of the IOH.
Membership to the society is open to all students who study in a related field or wish to gain a better understanding of the hospitality industry.
