Student wins Shanghai scholarship

London Met Asia-Pacific Studies student Silvana Spano has won a scholarship to visit Shanghai for one month as part of the Study China programme organised by the Department for Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS).

Silvana, who originally comes from Belgium and has Italian roots, will be studying intensive Mandarin for a month, as well as an introduction to Chinese society and economy.

‘I am very excited about this opportunity,’ said Silvana. ‘Having studied so much about China in my degree this is going to be an amazing chance to see this fascinating country for real. I have always been interested in Asia and I am really interested to see for myself how Chinese society has developed over the past few years.’

‘We all hear so much about the advancement of China, so I am keen to get to know Chinese students and see their perspectives on contemporary China. Being there and seeing things for myself, is probably the best education I could ask for.’
