Wall ball bounces from London to New York

9th April 2009

An interactive installation created by a group of lecturers at the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design (JCAMD) is to feature simultaneously at exhibitions in London and New York.

Wall Ball is the creation of Alexander Wendt, Elaine Thomazi-Freitas and Luke Hastilow who teach BA Music Technology (Sound for Media) at JCAMD.

The installation consists of an interactive wall and a database of 231 billion jumbled up faces. Audiences are then invites to explore the face database and throw a ball to find or reconstruct eight real faces out of the jumbled ones.

Wall Ball is currently one of the highlights of the Liminal exhibition, which runs until the 25 April at Rivington Place in Hoxton, London. Liminal intends to reveal the invisible thresholds of meaning that are associated with the power relations of the modern city. Concurrent with the London showcase, the installation will be recreated for the New York Festival of Electroacoustic Music.

Visitors can experience the Wall Ball in London at the Liminal exhibition at Rivington Place until Saturday 25 April. Gallery opening times are 11am - 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 11am - 9pm on Thursdays and 12pm - 6pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
