The Brief

Martin Wright, GameLab Director and principal lecturer at London Metropolitan University, won over £550 000 contract with the BBC to help develop software for Deaf children.  With help from The London Enterprise Office (TLEO) Martin and his colleagues are now about to produce an internationally orientated TV / game spin-off product.

The Solution

Within two years of applying for a standard grant through the Emerald Fund, GameLab received £51,000 for their idea,  £13,000 was Match funding from previous projects, and the remaining £38,000 from the Emerald fund and will be used towards international developments creating a system for localising sihn language for different territories and further marketing.

The Result

Martin, who had over  16 years of BBC television experience and his team produced their line of interactive children’s TV programmes, video games, and film production for the deaf population worldwide.  GameLab worked alongside the University of East Anglia, Norwich and they have worked together with the Emerald Fund to develop the interactive technology for different sign languages, including, British, German and American.

The Tesimonial

This is an excellent example of the support Emerald Fund can offer and now GameLab’s product, “Performing Hands”, is nominated for ‘Best Children’s Primary Learning Programme’ at the 2008 British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Awards (BAFTAs).
