Project
Metropolitan Works, part of London Metropolitan University, is a unique
centre that supports London’s creative industries and related
manufacturing. Incorporating sector-specific initiatives, Furniture
Works and Gold Works, the centre encourages and facilitates creative
use of digital technologies for research, development and production
across a broad range of disciplines.
At the heart of Metropolitan Works is the Digital Manufacturing Centre, one of the largest centres of its kind in the UK. It houses:
- Rapid prototyping in plastic (SLS)
- Rapid prototyping in metal (SLM)
- 3D printing (colour and monochrome)
- 3D laser scanning
- CNC routing (3 and 5 axis)
- Laser cutting
- Digital printing (fabrics)
The mission of Met Works is to provide the tools for creative minds
to innovate. It is a 'factory in the city' where creative practitioners
can explore formerly in accessible advanced technologies to experiment,
practice and produce their ideas.
Bureau Service: Highly skilled technicians undertake jobs for creative designers with charges based on production time.
Training: We hold regular, certified Rhino CAD, Solid Works training and a Bespoke Technology and Training Programme for jewellery makers.
Business Support: Members can benefit from one to one consultations to discuss business issues and product development.
Events: Networking events, exhibitions, seminars and open days are just a few of the events we regularly hold.
